Aly & AJ Change Name to 78 Violet
HUH?!
Tommy2.Net confirmed with Hollywood Records that Aly and AJ are now 78 Violet.
The girls Tweeted about the change on their Twitter account. The sisters explained to their fans, “Fyi…..u pronounce #78violet as seventy eight violet:)”
The girls reassured one fan by tweeting to her, “don’t be sad…..its an exciting new beginning! The music will speak for itself.”
I was immediately shocked by the name change. For three years, I’ve been big time Aly & AJ fans. Their music has helped to both soothe me and jazz me up. I’ve been to multiple concerts, enjoying every minute of them! So to me all that matters is the music. The ladies behind the music seem like geniuely great people. So I don’t care what they call themselves, as long as they continue to perform awesome concerts and produce amazing music.
Though I do wonder how this name change will affect their career. Or maybe this is their way of reinventing themselves?

I’m a fan of the girls. Perhaps it’s the Heart influence of Ann and Nancy and wanting to be recognized as a band, not just a duo.

Keely – That’s a good point. I’m just so used to “Aly & AJ” but 78violet is cool…as long as it doesn’t hurt what they’ve already established.

i don’t get why they are changing it, but i dont really care as long as their music is still great! im a super big fan & i LOVE their music! is there any relase date for their new album yet? im hoping it comes soon!

i didn’t want them to change their name… it was simply fine of them to keep the aly and aj.. it was way better

I think that 78violet is a cool name and I like it a lot… I gives the girls a new vibe and I can’t wait for the album…. It will be sweet and No one should dis the name… It is the girls decision and I think it rox

“One thing I’m excited my sister and I took a risk on was changing our band name from “Aly & AJ” to “78violet.” [Note: They announced the name on Twitter. Follow Aly & AJ!] That was HUGE for AJ and I! We were scared at first that people might think we were trying to “ditch” Aly & AJ, which we’re so not! We’re still those people, but at the same time, our music has grown. When you listen to our new music, it really does sound like “78violet” – it’s an extension of Aly & AJ and our natural progression towards always wanting to have a band name. We never were able to think of something cool when we were younger. Also, I’m afraid of heights, so skydiving would be a different type of risk I might be willing to take in the future!”

I think it’s a terrible name. Where’s the hook? What does this name have going for it that someone who may not have heard of them (and there are a lot of people like that; I have met them when I play Aly and AJ’s music at a Fatburger on Ventura Boulevard.) would want to check them out?? I don’t see anything like that in this new name.

Don’t get me wrong! I love their music, and I thought Insomniatic was the most under-rated album of 2007. It had at least four other songs that would have made good singles. The ones I liked best were Flattery, Silence, I’m Here, and Division. Bullseye , Closure, and Blush were all very good as well.

Wow. I’ve known them as Aly & AJ since like forever! the name change came as a shock. really. I mean.. 78violet?! that sounds more like some cheesy web username!
argh. don’t get me wrong. I still love Aly & AJ and no matter what their names are, they’re still my favourite duo.

I LOVE IT!!! I know that Aly and AJ will always be theirselves ’cause they are amazing and their music will always be fantastic… I think that they wanted to get off completely of their Disney carrer. But I don’t mind. 78 Violet you rock!!!

in my opinion, the best songs for me are: on the ride, sticks and stones and rush. out of the blue. In fact, I love all their songs but if i had to choose I would choce these.
When will they sell their new CD? I prefer aly & aj to78violet but if they sing the same kind of music, it doesn’t matter.

DUDE! Ally your so awesome on Hellcats, i watch that show every Wednesday night when it comes on.. Your so pretty! A ton of people at my schoo say i look like you.. and i take that as a compliment, so goooo Ally!
