More ‘Wizards’ Magic on Disney Channel

Disney Channel has extended the third season of hit “Wizards of Waverly Place” with a pickup of eight additional episodes, according to Reuters.

The series that focuses on 3 siblings with magical powers, stars Gomez, David Henrie, Jake T. Austin, Jennifer Stone, Maria Canals-Barrera and David DeLuise.

Why is “Wizards” so great?  Disney Channel President Gary Marsh said it best:

“The appeal of ‘Wizards’ is simple: It’s our extraordinary cast.  This is undoubtedly one of the strongest comedic ensembles on television.”

Actually I think it’s Selena Gomez. :)   But truthfully the ENTIRE cast is great!

This is AWESOME news that we’re getting 8 more episodes of “Wizards” and hopefully we’ll get a FOURTH season as well!!!!

New ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ Episode Preview: Wizards Vs Vampires

Next Friday begins the exciting 4-part Wizards of Waverly Place Saga: Wizards Vs. Vampires.  Be sure to tune into the Disney Channel at 8pm on Friday, July 24, 2009!

Watch the Preview Here:

‘Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana’ Becomes Most Watched Scripted Telecast of 2009

Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana

Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14 powered the extravaganza event that crossed over stars and storylines from Wizards of Waverly Place, The Suite Life on Deck and Hannah Montana into the most watched scripted telecast of 2009.  The 90-minute presentation also became cable’s No. 1 telecast in those same demographics.  In fact, only NBC’s “Super Bowl XLIII” coverage beat Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana as the most watched TV telecast among Kids 6-11.

Nickelodeon sent it’s First Night of a Weekend-Long 10th Anniversary Spongebob Celebration (which featured an original episode at 8pm) against the Disney Channel telecast and lost big time.  Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana dominated the rival network’s event by more than doubling it in Total Viewers (9.3 million viewers versus 3.6 million) and more than tripling in core kid demographics (Kids 6-11: 3.8 million vs. 1.2 million and Tweens 9-14: 3.7 million vs 982,000).

This crossover greatly improved upon the first crossover, That’s Suite Life of Hannah Montana.  There’s still the problem of juggling all the characters of three shows.  Mostly the minor characters, such as Harper from Wizards of Waverly Place and Oliver, Rico and Jackson from Hannah Montana, stayed on their shows and didn’t crossover.  Actually the Suite Life on Deck characters cross-overed to the other two shows.  And my only criticism of the event was it had too much of the Suite Life characters, but as their show’s setting was the crossover’s setting, I guess that makes sense.  I just really wanted to see some Miley-Selena screen time.

We’ll review more in-depth this record setting cross over event on a future blog post as well as on a future episode of The Magic Never Ends Podcast.  Stay tuned!

And if you haven’t seen 2009′s Most Watched Scripted Telecast, or want to see it again, watch it TONIGHT, Sunday, July 19, at 8pm on the Disney Channel.

Selena Gomez Celebrates ‘Wizard’ Emmy Nomination with Excitable Tweet

Disney star, Selena Gomez, turns to her Twitter account to express her sheer joy for her show’s 2009 Emmy Nomination:

Wizards of Waverly Place got nominated for an Emmy!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D What an honor, I’m speechless. I am so blessed!

Cant wait to celebrate with the crew today!!

It’s neat to see a Selena get so excited about this news.

Her show is up against Hannah Montana and iCarly for the Outstanding Children’s Program award.

Good luck to all the nominees!

Disney Orders Up ‘Good Luck’ for Bridgit Mendler

Bridget Mendler

Is newcomer Bridgit Mendler the next big Disney star?  That’s what Disney is counting on by casting her in the newest Disney Channel Original Series titled Good Luck Chuck, which stars the 16-year-old actress.

You might remember the young actress as Nick Jonas’ love interest on the Disney Channel series JONAS.  She will soon be seen as a blood-sucking vampire in a four-episode story arc on Wizards of Waverly Place, another Disney Channel series.

“We just fell in love with her,” said Adam Bonnett, senior vp original programming at Disney Channel. “She has all the attributes of a Disney star.”

Now Mendler stars as Casey Holliday in Good Luck Charlie.

She is following a similar path as fellow Disney Channel star, Selena Gomez.  Gomez first appeared in an episode of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.  Then, she guest starred on Hannah Montana as Hannah’s rival Mikayla.  Eventually she was rewarded a starring role on Wizards of Waverly Place.

Joining her is Disney Channel regular Jason Dolley (Cory In the House, Minutemen and Hatching Pete) as her brother Teddy.

I’m glad that Dolley is getting another Disney Channel series.  Cory was just not a good show.  But he turned in great performances in two Disney Channel Original Movies.

Charlie follows the two teenagers and their 10-year-old brother, Gabe, whose parents enlist their help when they return to work after the birth of their fourth child, Charlotte, aka Charlie. With their parents juggling full time careers, the older Holliday siblings pitch in, getting very familiar with baby formula, burp clothes and babysitting while navigating typical teenage life.

In what should be the heart-warming highlight of the series, Teddy creates personalized video diaries for Charlie.  Each video will chronicle Teddy’s daily adventures and mishaps for Charlie to use as advice when she grows older.

I like this hook for the show as we’re doing something similar for our infant daughter.

The show is being labeled as “a family show from a kid’s point of view.”

Good Luck Charlie will start production in August 2009 and debut on the Disney Channel in 2010.

Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana Crossover airs THIS Friday at 8pm!

Nine stars from three shows all aboard the S.S. Tipton for crazy Disney Channel fun!

Don’t miss this special event this Friday at 8pm to the Disney Channel.

Disney did a fantastic job with their first crossover event, That’s So Suite Life of Hannah Montana, which brought episodes of the Suite Life of Zack & Cody, That’s So Raven and Hannah Montana together.  I’m more excited by this second crossover event.  We will get to see great pairings from the various shows, as well as Hannah Montana and London Tipton catching up from the last crossover event.  Too bad Ashley Tisdale isn’t on Suite Life on Deck.  I enjoyed her character (Maddie Fitzpatrick) sharing screen time with Hannah in That’s So Suite Life of Hannah Montana.

Disney also announced it will release the 90-minute, 3-part event on Disney DVD on September 22, 2009. Special features will include cast bloopers and behind-the-scene footage.

Read the plot for Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana below.  Then watch the Disney Channel commercial.

Part 1: “Cast-Away (To Another Show)”

Part 1 is Episode 25 of Season 2 of Wizards of Waverly Place. Justin (David Henrie) is excited to meet London Tipton (Brenda Song) when he wins an essay contest prize: a cruise on the SS Tipton. Alex (Selena Gomez) and Max (Jake T. Austin) join Justin onboard, where Alex bonds with new friend Bailey (Debby Ryan), but soon gets in hot water when she uses magic to bring Harper (Jennifer Stone) aboard. Meanwhile, Max and Zack (Dylan Sprouse) compete in a series of outrageous challenges.

Part 2: “Double-Crossed”

Part 2 is Episode 21 of Season 1 of The Suite Life On Deck. Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus) boards the SS Tipton on her way to a concert performance in Honolulu. To impress Bailey, Cody (Cole Sprouse) enlists Woody (Matthew Timmons) to help him get tickets. Meanwhile, the Russos use a little magic to spice up their vacation – Alex pulls a prank on Justin, for which Mr. Moseby (Phill Lewis) blames Zack, while Max introduces London to a magical suitcase.

Part 3: “Super(Stitious) Girl”

Part 3 is Episode 19 of Season 3 of Hannah Montana. While on the ship deck, Miley loses the charm ankle bracelet that her mother gave her and when things start to go wrong, she is sure it’s because she lost her lucky charm also London finds it. Miley as Hannah asks her to give it back but London refuses. Meanwhile, Cody tells Bailey that he has a close friendship with Hannah and promises great seats to her concert but Alex also says she and Bailey can go together.

Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez are One And The Same

Real-life BFFs Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez starred in the friendship movie, Princess Protection Program on the Disney Channel.  The movie is now available on Disney DVD, which includes another team-up of the two friends – singing the film’s poppy, fun theme song “One And The Same.”

I love the special effects the director employs to reinforce the song’s theme.

Ever since I’ve heard it, I can’t help singing this song.  The music video makes the song more memorable as you can tell that Demi and Selena are having too much fun singing and acting out scenes in the music video.  Their great friendship, and the fun they have with each other, is contagious!

Demi and Selena, your fans want more collabations together!!

Just Jared Jr. has pictures from the set of the music video.

Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie Soundtrack

To coincide with Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie, Disney is releasing a soundtrack to movie.  Premiering in August, Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie will air on the Disney Channel as part of the network’s Summer of Stars.

Here’s the Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie Soundtrack Listing:

1. Disappear – Selena Gomez
2. Magical – Selena Gomez
3. Magic (Pilot) – Selena Gomez
4. Strange Magic – Steve Rushton
5. Magic (The Cars) – Honor Society
6. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic – Mitchel Musso
7. Magic Carpet Ride – KSM
8. Magic (Xanadu) – Meaghan Martin
9. You Can Do Magic – Drew Seeley
10. Some Call It Magic Raven – Symoné
11. Do You Believe in Magic – Aly & AJ
12. Everything Is Not As It Seems – Selena Gomez

Now listen to samples from the album:

Unfortunately, I’m not not overly excited about this soundtrack.  I love Aly & AJ (now called 78violet), but their contribution to the album is song that already appeared on “Into the Rush.”  Selena Gomez does sing four of the twelve songs on the soundtrack, so if I’m purchasing it I’m buying it for Selena.  More likely I’ll purchase the Selena Gomez songs off iTunes.

It’s obvious Disney decided to just remake songs that have magic in the title, since it’s for a movie about Wizards.  While it’s neat to hear the Disney music stars’ rendition of these pop classics, I’d much rather Disney offer original music for the Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie.

A Chance to Talk with Selena LIVE!

Selena Gomez is giving her fans a chance to talk with her through SayNow.  She announced it on her Facebook page:

“Camp Rock” sequel on track for 2010 debut

Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers return to “Camp Rock” but with a new director and writer.

The Associated Press reports that production will begin this summer on the sequel to the top-rated Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM) and premiere next year on the cable network.

In “Camp Rock 2 The Final Jam,” the main characters returning to the camp to find that some of the students and instructors have ditched it for nearby rival Camp Star.

Meaghan Jette Martin, Maria Canals-Barrera, Alyson Stoner and Daniel Fathers (Camp Rock’s head honcho) return for the sequel as well.

“Camp Rock 2″ will add two new cast members.  Hip-hop artist Matthew “Mdot” Finley plays the Camp Star hot-shot singer, who challenges Camp Rock to a musical showdown.   Chloe Bridges, a 17-year-old classical pianist will play Dana, the daughter of Camp Star’s owner.

Nick Jonas should get more screen time in the sequel as he will have a “Romeo and Juliet” type romance with Dana.

Paul Hoen will direct Camp Rock 2, taking over for Matthew Diamond.  Hoen directed the DCOM “Jump In!” starring Corbin Blue and Keke Parker.

Dan Berendsen (“Hannah Montana The Movie”) wrote the “Camp Rock 2″ script with Karin Gist and Regina Hicks, the duo who wrote “Jump In!” with Doreen Spicer. Gist and Hicks also wrote the first “Camp Rock” with Julie Brown and Paul Brown.

I’m definitely excited for another “Camp Rock” movie!  Demi and Joe were great in the first movie.  And  I can’t wait to hear more Camp Rock music!  With the plot centering on the inter-camp rivalry, it seems that Tess (Martin) won’t be the villian of the film.  I look forward to see how her character will evolve.

Are you excited for “Camp Rock 2 The Final Jam”?  Will the sequel be as good as the first movie?  Let us know your thoughts!

New Hannah Montana Episode: “I Honestly Love You (No, Not You)”

Just Jared Jr. shared details and pictures on the July 26 Hannah Montana episode, I Honestly Love You (No, Not You).

In the episode, Miley is in the hospital recovering from a concert injury, she overhears Oliver (Mitchel Musso) say “I love you.” Assuming he was saying it to her, Miley tells Lilly (Emily Osment), and they hatch a plan to remind Oliver of his feelings for Lilly.

My most favorite Hannah episodes where Miley hatches a crazy scheme and drags BFF Lilly along for the adventure.  This episode should be great!

‘Wizards on Deck With Hannah Montana’ coming July 17

The Disney Channel brings three of its shows together for another Crossover Event!

Last time it was the That’s so Suite Life of Hannah Montana which brought the stars of That’s So Raven, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and Hannah Montana together.  Crossovers are very tricky.  It’s not always easy to blend different styles together.  Inevitably a character or show element is short-changed for the sake of the crossover.  The Disney Channel writes masterfully brought together those three shows to form an almost sleemless story.  It wasn’t perfect but it made for a great hour and a half event!

I hoped that the That’s so Suite Life of Hannah Montana had reached a level of success for The Disney Channel so they’d bring together three more shows again.  I hoped for Hannah, Wizards of Waverly Place, and Sonny With A Chance.  Recently, Selena Gomez guest starred brilliantly on Sonny as herself, thus establishing in “the Sonny Universe” that Wizards of Waverly Place is just a TV show.  Though I doubt the Disney Channel would hold tight to continuity if it meant preventing them from bringing some of their hit franchises together.

Premiering at 8pm July 17, 2009 on the Disney Channel, the crossover event is called Wizards on Deck With Hannah Montana.

The Celebrity Cafe has a break down on the crossover event as well the contest that is coinciding with the event.

Wizards Of Waverly Place: The Movie – Full Length Trailer

The movie deals with the Russo family vacation gone wrong.  Parents Jerry and Theresa decide to celebrate their anniversary at the Carribbean resort where they first met, bringing their children along.  Alex (Selena Gomez) becomes upset at the lack of freedom she’s given.  In a fit of anger, she wishes her parents had never met, casting a time reversal spell causing her parents to not meet.

With her brothers Justin and Alex, they must journey into the jungle to find the Stone of Dreams to reverse the spell and save the family.

Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie looks like a winner!  The TV show is fun and the movie version seems to have captured that essence, along with a bit of extra added action and suspense.  Check out the full-length trailer below!
