Comic Con Interview with Cast and Crew of ‘Tron Legacy’

At the 2009 San Diego Comic Con, MoviesOnline caught up with Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Sean Bailey, Joe Kosinski, Steven Lisberger and Oren Aviv to talk about Tron Legacy.

Tron Legacy is the sequel to the 1982 sci-fi movie Tron.  So naturally, the interview’s first question is about the 30 year time gap between films.

Oren Aviv, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, says it’s not a goal of his to reinvent Disney classics, even though the studio is putting out Alice in Wonderland, A Christmas Carol and Tron Legacy.  He says that “a great story and a great storyteller, that we can combine to come up with something that is fresh and unique” is what excites him.

Jeff Bridges wouldn’t talk much as to why his younger self appears in the sequel only to say that the technique used to pull off this trick was a challenge.

Steven Lisberger, director of the 1982 Tron and producer on the sequel, assures both old and new fans alike:

“This movie takes place in 2010 but accepts the history of what happened between 1982 and 2010 really happened.  I guess it heavily considers the original and accepts the events of the original as true fact and back-story, for our story, but our story is a stand alone story.”

I’m excited about this new movie, and from the cast and crew’s interview, it sounds like they are as well!  Most importantly, they seem to recognize that they need to pay homage to the loyal Tron fans but given the three decades gap, they need to make it assessable to new fans.

Walt Disney Pictures Presents a Tim Burton Film - Alice in Wonderland

Simply stunning display of colors and maddness!

Walt Disney Pictures released new photos from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.  And they are both beautiful and distrubing (in a good way!).

I’m so far loving all the images coming from Disney on this film.  Tim Burton seems to have really captured the essence of Wonderland!  I’m digging all the vivid colors.

Check out the Alice in Wonderland photos on Walt Disney Pictures Backklot’s Facebook Photo Album.

First Look: Teaser Trailer for Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’

IGN.com has released a teaser trailer for Tim Burton’s re-imagining of the classic story of Alice in Wonderland!

I’m pretty stoked about this teaser trailer!  It looks wild and wacky…totally Tim Burton!  The cinematography looks amazing.  This movie will be quite the 3-D movie going experience!

EDIT:  Seems someone had leaked the teaser trailer to IGN.com, which resulted in the video finding its way to YouTube.  Disney made YouTube and IGN remove the video. Which makes sense, I suppose since Disney wants to save the big reveal of all the Alice goodness ’til tomorrow’s San Diego Comic Con.

But looks like (for now) MSN Video still has the teaser trailer.  The quality is pretty low.  It will do until the new footage is revealed from Comic Con.

Are YOU excited for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland?  Tell us your thoughts!

New The White Queen Pic From ‘Alice in Wonderland’

Anne Hathaway is the White Queen in this new photo released by Empire Online.

Alice in Wonderland - Anne Hathaway as the White QueenAnne Hathaway is eye-catching as the White Queen in this brand-new picture available from Empire Online.  Her appearance is  elegant yet bizarre.

Which is not surprising since the White Queen seems to live her life backwards (screaming before she’s injured etc).  Mostly an ally to Alice, she will prove not to be the most useful or reliable companion.

Though I’d rather see Hathaway in the lead role of Alice, I think she’ll excel in this odd character.  Though truthfully all the inhabitants of Wonderland are more than a little odd.

Interesting fact is that the White Queen doesn’t appear in the Alice in Wonderland book, appearing in the sequel Through The Looking Glass.

But this Alice is not your Lewis Caroll classic.  It’s a modernized re-imagining of Caroll’s book, from the wonderfully weird mind of Tim Burton!  Burton is the no-brainer choice to direct Alice in Wonderland.

Linda Woolverton updated the story, which centers on the now-17-year-old Alice. Attending a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types, she runs after a white rabbit into a hole and ends up transferred once again to Wonderland. Still, she has no recollection of this place she visited 10 years before.

The 3-D movie will combine performance-capture imagery with live-action footage.  The scheduled release date is March 5, 2010.

During their 3D panel on Thursday, July 23 at the 2009 San Diego Comic Con, Disney will debut first ever footage of Alice in Wonderland.  Now I’m really upset I cannot attend this years Comic Con!

Are you going to Comic Con?  We would very much appreciate updates/reports from Disney’s 3D panel!

Empire also displayed three other pictures, which shows Mia Wasikowska’s Alice, Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, and The Red Queen played by Helena Bonham Carter.

Disney Reveals Synopsis for new ‘Tron’ movie

The studio will screen footage from the new film the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday July 23 at 11am.

This is the official synopsis for the Tron reboot:

“TRON is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.”
