Miley Cyrus and Zac Efron to Surf into ‘Gidget’ Remake?

Musical-comedy film envisioned as start of new franchise.

Moviehole reports that per a reliable source Zac Efron and Brittney Snow have been approached to co-star with Disney pop star/actress Miley Cyrus in remake of the 1959 surfer movie, Gidget.  Cyrus would play the title role in the movie.

I’m not sure if most people even know about this movie.  So here’s some information:

Gidget is a Columbia Pictures feature film starring Sandra Dee, Cliff Robertson, and James Darren in a story about a teenager’s initiation into the California surf culture and her affliated romance with a young surfer. Gidget was one of the first “beach movies” and was followed by two sequel films, various television series, several telemovies, and the spoof Psycho Beach Party. Gidget received one award nomination.

Neither Efron nor Snow have been officially signed to this project.

I think Cyrus would do well in a musical-comedy film.  Maybe she’d do a bit better on the musical than comedy side.  I’m very interested in a Cyrus/Efron team-up in a movie.  Especially if their movie is a musical comedy.  I’m just not sue about a Gidget remake.

Miley seems extremely eager to get her movie career going.  Having signed onto movie based on the young-adult novel, Wings (with the possibility of it turning into a Twilight-type franchise) and rumors that she’s enthusistically trying to land the role of Batgirl in the next Batman movie.

Do you think that Miley could hang-ten as a young surfer in a Gidget remake?  What do you think of Cyrus-Efron movie?

Walt Disney Pictures Presents a Tim Burton Film - Alice in Wonderland

Simply stunning display of colors and maddness!

Walt Disney Pictures released new photos from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.  And they are both beautiful and distrubing (in a good way!).

I’m so far loving all the images coming from Disney on this film.  Tim Burton seems to have really captured the essence of Wonderland!  I’m digging all the vivid colors.

Check out the Alice in Wonderland photos on Walt Disney Pictures Backklot’s Facebook Photo Album.

First Look: Teaser Trailer for Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’

IGN.com has released a teaser trailer for Tim Burton’s re-imagining of the classic story of Alice in Wonderland!

I’m pretty stoked about this teaser trailer!  It looks wild and wacky…totally Tim Burton!  The cinematography looks amazing.  This movie will be quite the 3-D movie going experience!

EDIT:  Seems someone had leaked the teaser trailer to IGN.com, which resulted in the video finding its way to YouTube.  Disney made YouTube and IGN remove the video. Which makes sense, I suppose since Disney wants to save the big reveal of all the Alice goodness ’til tomorrow’s San Diego Comic Con.

But looks like (for now) MSN Video still has the teaser trailer.  The quality is pretty low.  It will do until the new footage is revealed from Comic Con.

Are YOU excited for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland?  Tell us your thoughts!

Disney Reveals ‘Prince of Persia’ Movie Photos

Uber-producer Jerrry Bruckheimer and Walt Disney Pictures will bring the popular Ubisoft fantasy adventure video game to the big screen.  What is sure to be an epic movie for the 2010 summer movie season, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Dastan, a street urchin in 6th century Persia.  After showing valor in battle, he is adopted by the king as his heir, so the king’s two sons will not fight over the throne. He teams up with Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) to rescue the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that controls time, from the hands of the villainous nobleman, Nizam (Sir Ben Kingsley).

Alfred Molina will portray Sheik Amar, Dastan’s mentor.

Mike Newell will direct the movie, which will hit theaters May 28, 2010.

Here are Gyllenhaal as the tough-looking, Dastan, and the beautiful Gemma as Princess Tamina.

Check out the September issue of Empire for more exclusive pictures, and a report from the set of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Comingsoon.net has an exclusive photo of Sir Ben Kingsley as the villian in the movie.

I have yet to play any of the Prince of Persia video games, but I hear great reviews for this action video game series.  Also, how can you go wrong with a Jerry Brucheimer produced action blockbuster movie?  Newell did a good job on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which had action, drama and emotion.

What do you think?  Is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time on your movie watching list?  Is this another epic movie for Disney?

I can’t wait to see this show!!  I’m very excited by the previews coming from Disney.  It should be a show of beautiful sights and sounds!

Are you eager to see this new water show?  Do you think it will provide a much needed boom to DCA?  Let us know!

‘Wall-E’ Director to Helm Disney Film Based on Burroughs Martian Fantasy Novel

Princess of MarsCould John Carter of Mars be an epic franchise hit for Disney in the same caliber as the Pirates of the Caribbean movies?

Willem Dafoe will play  the fierce Martian warrior Tar Tarkas, who differs from his race because he possesses the ability to love, reports Variety.

The film is an adaptation on the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel “A Princess of Mars,” which is the first in Burroughs’ Martian series.  Andrew Stanton (Wall-E) will direct and write the picture.

Taylor Kitsch will play John Carter, the American Civil War veteran that is transported from Earth to Mars and the main hero of the novel.  Lynn Collins will play Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, a member of the humanoid red Martian race.

Stanton did an outstanding job with Wall-E by displaying both action and romance in that film.  With him helming the film (and probably the movie series), John Carter should rock the box office and delight audiences like Pirates did.

These Burroughs novels are a blend of sword fighting and swashbuckling, monsters,  and supernatural elements.  In X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Kitsch suberbly portrayed the mutant Gambit, who is a character full action and romance.  So he should excel in the role of the courageous John Carter, master of swords and weapons.

Filming will take place from November 2009 to July 2010 in Utah.  Disney plans to release the film in 2011, which I would assume is during the summer movie season.

New The White Queen Pic From ‘Alice in Wonderland’

Anne Hathaway is the White Queen in this new photo released by Empire Online.

Alice in Wonderland - Anne Hathaway as the White QueenAnne Hathaway is eye-catching as the White Queen in this brand-new picture available from Empire Online.  Her appearance is  elegant yet bizarre.

Which is not surprising since the White Queen seems to live her life backwards (screaming before she’s injured etc).  Mostly an ally to Alice, she will prove not to be the most useful or reliable companion.

Though I’d rather see Hathaway in the lead role of Alice, I think she’ll excel in this odd character.  Though truthfully all the inhabitants of Wonderland are more than a little odd.

Interesting fact is that the White Queen doesn’t appear in the Alice in Wonderland book, appearing in the sequel Through The Looking Glass.

But this Alice is not your Lewis Caroll classic.  It’s a modernized re-imagining of Caroll’s book, from the wonderfully weird mind of Tim Burton!  Burton is the no-brainer choice to direct Alice in Wonderland.

Linda Woolverton updated the story, which centers on the now-17-year-old Alice. Attending a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types, she runs after a white rabbit into a hole and ends up transferred once again to Wonderland. Still, she has no recollection of this place she visited 10 years before.

The 3-D movie will combine performance-capture imagery with live-action footage.  The scheduled release date is March 5, 2010.

During their 3D panel on Thursday, July 23 at the 2009 San Diego Comic Con, Disney will debut first ever footage of Alice in Wonderland.  Now I’m really upset I cannot attend this years Comic Con!

Are you going to Comic Con?  We would very much appreciate updates/reports from Disney’s 3D panel!

Empire also displayed three other pictures, which shows Mia Wasikowska’s Alice, Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, and The Red Queen played by Helena Bonham Carter.

Vanessa Hudgens Not Stripping Naked in ‘Sucker Punch’

Vanessa HudgensConfirming that the HSM starlet will only be seen in ‘less than what she would normally wear,” Vanessa Hudgens‘ publicist quickly sets the record straight on the internet rumor.

Supposedly this rumor links back to the U.K.’s Metro report that she would strip down for Sucker Punch, probably based on the “I’m playing a character named Blondie and it’s set in a brothel in the 1950s, so there’s not a whole lot of clothes” quote from the 20-year-old actress.

Hudgens’ words may imply that she might strip down, but she was not quoted to the affirmative of being naked in the Zack Snyder film.  Maybe the young beauty didn’t realize how the vagueness of her words?

I also wonder if her past mistake in 2007, when nude photos of her circulated on the internet for which she apologized, had any factor in this rumor?  We are willing to forget that lapse in judgement, and only bring up that event to ponder if it played a part in the U.K.’s Metro’s reporting, as they labled her as “controversial Disney actress.”

Though, the Disney actress did tell E! News in May that she is willing to “show nudity in a film when the time is right”.

Maybe this should be filed under be careful what you say and cross-referenced with people will think about you what they want to think?

Vanessa Hudgens to Play Foul-Mouthed Prostitute in ‘Sucker Punch’

Vanessa HudgensVanessa Hudgens lands a very  different role in the movie, Sucker Punch, in the hopes of changing her image.

A few months back, Contact Music News reported that Vanessa Hudgens, 20, refused to put a non-nudity clause in he contract.  She stated that she’d bare all if the right movie came along.  Could Sucker Punch be that movie?

Although this wouldn’t be the first time the actress has bared all.  In 2007, nude photos of her circulated on the internet for which she apologized.

Contact Music News quoted her as saying, “I’m playing a character named Blondie and it’s set in a brothel in the 1950s, so there’s not a whole lot of clothes.”

Sucker Punch , directed by Zack Snyder (300 and Watchmen) is about a group of institutionalized young girls that use fantasy to escape from their horrible, everyday lives.  Snyder describes the movie as Alice in Wonderland with machine guns.

Hudgens is excited for all the action in the film as she has wanted to do an action movie for awhile.

Snyder wasn’t sure if the High School Musical star would be a good fit for his new movie.  But Hudgens won over the director during the audition process.

He told Reel Movie News:  “Then I saw the tape and I literally went ‘Wow, she’s good.’ She’s really good. Then I talked to her about what she’d have to do.”

“You’re going to see her shooting machine guns, fighting, beating the sh-t out of people.  It’s funny – we sat her down for her physical evaluation, and she was really athletic. She’s a dancer, so all the choreography is gonna be fun for her.”

“Bolt” Movie Trailer

We seen this trailer twice while at the movies recently. It looks very cute and very funny. Especially the hamster side-kick. It is sure to be another great family movie from Walt Disney Pictures.
