MNE Ep. 64 “How We Travelled to Disneyland and WDW with a Baby”

It has been too long since last Will and Shannon spoke to you!  Sorry for the delay.  With Shannon going back to work…and figuring out this whole parenting thing… well…  Will blames the Princess Peanut…. JUST KIDDING!!!

Speaking of the Princess Peanut and figuring out how to be parents, Will and Shannon present to you their experience traveling to Disneyland and Walt Disney World with the Princess Peanut.

Back in May, the three Embracers of the Disney Magic, travelled cross-country from Maryland to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA.  On the way home, however, they decided to take a slight detour to the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, FL.  This vacation marked the first time Will and Shannon took the then 2-month old, Princess Peanut on a plane and to a Disney park.

Hear their experience with:

  • Getting through security check point & what to do with the car seat, infant carrier, base and stroller.
  • Communicating with your significant other.
  • How to  keep your baby happy during take off and landing.
  • Tips for keeping you and your baby cool in the heat.
  • Baby Care Centers at both the DLR and WDW.

So climb into the Mobile Studios with Will, Shannon, Princess Peanut and Ashley as we travel to the New Jersey and discuss How We Travelled to Disneyland and WDW with a Baby.

Westfest 2009 Master Planning Spreadsheet Revealed!

Will and Shannon’s proposed Westfest 2009 itinerary.  As always, it is subject to change.  But this is how it looks pre-trip.

Embrace the Planning! What is the Master Planning Spreadsheet?

The Master Planning Spreadsheet (MPSS) is how Will plans out his trip itineraries to Walt Disney World and Disneyland.  It takes into account park hours (including Extra Magic Hours), dining reservations, shows, park rehabs, and special events.  This allows Will to feel as if he can Embrace the Magic as much as possible!

It doesn’t plan out to the second park touring though.  Its purpose is to establish blocks of activity time.

It may sound obsessive.  It may sound insane!  But it works for those that use it correctly.  Ask anyone that has toured a Disney park with Will and they all agree to the funness and practicality of the Master Planning Spreadsheet.

What’s the Focus of this MPSS?

Although we’re going for DPN Westfest, this trip is still a family vacation.  We don’t have an opportunity to visit Disneyland very often so we need to find a good balance between Westfest  meets and family park time.

We might be able to make more Westfest meets.  We might not be able to make Rope Drop every morning or stay until park close every night.

But this is the plan pre-trip.  More likely, this is the hope of what we can accomplish on the trip.  As time and circumstances dictate, plans change so things could get dropped or added.

Are You Attending Westfest?

You should be attending!!  We hope to see you in the park.  Especially at the  meets hosted by the Magic Never Ends and the Travelears! Those are sure to be most fun!!!

Visit DPNWestfest.com for more information, including event schedules and media from past Westfests.

Unfortunately, we probably will be unable to add you to any dining reservations, but we would encourage you to make your own reservations!

Disney will send cruise ship back to Europe in 2010

From the Orlando Sentinel Blog:

Disney is sending its cruise ships further a field than ever before.

The company is announcing this afternoon that it will send the 2,700-passenger Disney Magic cruise ship overseas for five months in 2010, for a series of sailings that will take it from Russia to Northern Africa. The April-through-September schedule will mark the longest stretch that a Disney cruise ship has yet spent away from its home port at Port Canaveral.

Disney’s schedule includes eight 10- and 11-night tours through the Mediterranean, where the Magic spent the summer of 2007. But it will also feature the company’s first sailings in Northern Europe, with four 12-night voyages that will take the ship from Dover, England, to St. Petersburg, Russia, with stops in half a dozen other countries.

“We had a huge success when we went to the Med the first time. And there were a lot of guests who, frankly, didn’t have an opportunity to go,” said Tom McAlpin, president of the Celebration-based Disney Cruise Line. McAlpin personally toured Northern European ports in June. “Now we’re going back for an extended season.”

In addition, while it has one ship overseas, Disney plans to shift its second ship, the Disney Wonder, to slightly longer sailings out of Port Canaveral. Instead of three- and four-night Caribbean trips, the Wonder will offer four- and five-night voyages with new stops in Key West and an extra stop at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in the Bahamas.

McAlpin said the shift is designed to accommodate families clamoring for longer Caribbean cruises in the summer, when children are out of school. “People just want a little more time,” McAlpin said.

Disney’s return trip to Europe comes as it is having two 4,000-passenger cruise ships built in Germany. While the company has committed to basing the new vessels at Port Canaveral for the first few years after they arrive in 2011 and 2012, Disney has been silent about where it plans to send the existing ships.

Some analysts have speculated that California and Europe are the most likely destinations. And Disney’s scheduling so far — it has twice sent the Magic to California, for the summers of 2005 and 2008, and has now announced its second stint in Europe — suggests that both are strong possibilities.

McAlpin cautioned against drawing conclusions from the moves.

“I think you can read into it that we’re exploring new waters and testing the levels of demand,” he said. “But there are a lot more new frontiers.”

McAlpin said Disney expects to reveal its 2011 plans for the Magic and Wonder in the latter half of next year.

Disney’s 2010 schedule calls for the Magic to begin and end the season in the Mediterranean. Many of the ports Disney will visit remain the same from 2007 — including the gateways to Rome, Florence and Nice, France — but Disney has also added stops at the island nation of Malta; the French island of Corsica; and Tunis, the capital of Tunisia on the North African coast.

The Northern European sailings will be sandwiched in between, in June and July. Sailing out of England, each voyage will include stops in Oslo, Copenhagen, and the gateway port to Berlin, as well as either Helsinki, Finland, or Tallinn, Estonia. Each trip will also include an overnight stop in St. Petersburg, Russia, giving passengers an extended window to explore the storied city or plan a day trip to Moscow. McAlpin called the St. Petersburg stop “the gem of the itinerary.”

Disney will also offer a pair of 14-night, one-way “repositioning” cruises that will take the Magic from Port Canaveral to Barcelona and back. McAlpin said Disney is studying special themes for the transatlantic voyages in hopes of boosting their appeal.

Beyond catering to Americans looking to visit Europe, the new overseas sailings will offer Disney a chance to begin marketing its cruise line directly to European travelers. Earlier this year, Disney Cruise Line opened an office in London with about 20 employees, in part to help the company better tap into the European cruise market.

“We’re looking to explore marketing in Europe,” McAlpin said. “That’s not a primary focus. But it’s certainly an opportunity.”

Aly & AJ show off Guitar Hero and Rock Band girl guitars

September 24, 2008

Aly & AJ showing off their Rock Band/Guitar Hero guitars

Aly & AJ are getting their own Guitar Hero and Rock Band girly guitars. The guitar peripherals will be available in mid-October 2008 for Wii & PS2 and will cost $69.99.

Pre-Order the Guitar Hero World Tour band kit on WiiThe girls appeared on the E! Network (Entertainment Television) and although brief, the girls do talk about their love for Guitar Hero and show off their guitars; whose look was actually designed by the teen pop star sisters themselves. So the duet can now add “video game guitar co-designers” to their growing list of accomplishments that includes: acting, song writing, singing and guitar playing (yes they do actually play real guitar), among other things (like shooting guns: see video at very bottom).

And why not? As a new study has shown, 97% of American youth play video games, and that includes 94% of girls. So it’s fitting that companies should develop guitar peripherals that girls would be more inclined to pick up.

And since Aly (real name: Alyson Renae “Aly” Michalka) & AJ (real name: Amanda Joy “AJ” Michalka) are young themselves (one is 17 the other is 19) it’s only fitting that their new guitars are aimed at a younger audience.

Here is a breakdown of each guitar.

Aly’s Guitar

Features a heart and cross bone print with a pink and brown colored guitar.

Aly's Guitar Hero guitar.

strong>AJ’s Guitar

The shape of the guitar mirrors that of the Aly & AJ “heart” logo in bright pink with a purple zebra print.

AJ's Guitar Hero/Rock Band Guitar

The guitars are being designed by video game accessory company PDP (Performance Designed Products). As stated above, they are for PS2 and Wii which means that they SHOULD work with both Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero 4 World Tour and one would presume they might also work with the PS3 versions of both games.

In addition, one of the guitars is designed specifically for tweens ages 8 to 12, while the other is for teens and older.

And just for fun, here is a video showing the girls shooting guns. For their Dad’s birthday, they went to the shooting range! Check out the video from the trip and watch them hit a bullseye… You DO NOT want to mess with Aly & AJ!

Disney theme park ticket prices to rise

LOS ANGELES (AP) — As if rising gas and food prices weren’t enough, a ticket to the Magic Kingdom will soon cost a few bucks more.

The Walt Disney Co. said Friday it is raising one-day ticket prices at its domestic parks starting Sunday.

Tickets for those aged 10 and older to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., will rise from $71 to $75, while tickets for children aged 3 to 9 will go from $60 to $63.

At Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., one-day prices will rise from $66 to $69 for those aged 10 and older, and from $56 to $59 for children aged 3 to 9.

The price increase applies in varying degrees for longer stays, while the park hopper option, an add-on that allows ticket-holders to move among any of Disney’s parks, will cost $50, up from $45.
